Am I enabling students to become more withdrawn, to become more anxious about engaging with the world outside their computer screen?
I’m trying to capture the same curiosity that led forty-two men westward to see what exactly the world was that unfurled for miles ahead of them.
The world felt wide and untouched and while I was scared to hope, I wanted to believe that this was the part where I would find the joy.
Poetry is hard work, and mostly I forget it exists.
They won’t need the little bit of butter you’ll add when they’re done but you’ll add it anyway.
There’s still a bit of wildness in them that we can never control.
We can be forgiven, perhaps, for imagining the past as it is recorded to be both graspable and comprehensive.
