Our theme for the month of October is “flash nonfiction.” Writers were asked to submit pieces that were 250 words or less.
My next tattoos are going to be my astrological signs. To tell the truth, I’m excited for the conversations about my faith and the signs that are sure to follow. I’m well aware that astrology can be vague, contradictory, and a bit over-the-top when it comes to predictions if you’re putting your trust in the wrong interpreters and resources.
Much like the Bible.
I treasure scripture, but I don’t believe it’s the end-all in knowing God. The authors were human. None of us would fit in their cosmos, if we’re being honest. I know where I fit in my Creator’s cosmos, though—they placed me under a Taurus sun and a Libra moon while Virgo was rising.
When I inevitably find myself in times of doubt, I find comfort in the patterns of the night. Whoever God is, they created those celestial forces and bodies with the same meticulous planning as done for each of us. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with looking to them for the occasional guidance, insight, or wisdom, for God is there too. Besides, if they used astrology to foretell their Son’s coming to the Magi, it’s safe to say they’re well aware of the power of the stars.
So, while I understand people’s hesitance to blend astrology with faith, it’s becoming a comfortable crossroad for me. There’s plenty of open space, so if my mortal eyes ever fail to find a path forward through life or scripture, there’s always the eyes of heaven above.
