About: Hanging Loose has published Denise Levertov, Sherman Alexie, and other familiar writers, though they take a special interest in work by new or little-known writers, as well as including a special section for high school writers. The name “Hanging Loose” came from the format of the first issue (mimeographed loose pages in an envelope) in 1966. Today, the magazine is bound, contains more pages, and has its own press—a small press of the same name centered in New York and Boston. As of 2009, Hanging Loose had published 165 titles and 94 issues of Hanging Loose magazine.
Analysis: Hanging Loose seems to be a very good publication. Calvin’s Full Text @ Hekman access makes it possible to view the pieces in PDF format, a great online taste of what the physical publication looks like. Definitely check it out.
