I haven’t outgrown my loneliness, but I do think I’m growing into my own solitude.
I did something I’d never done before: I started screaming for help.
Local journalism can disappear without so much as a cry these days, and typically with only halfhearted protestation by the community.
Lilith cries out to God that he made her from filth, so what else did he expect from her? And so it was Lilith I thought of when I realized how bad things had become.
Most people say that I shouldn’t let anything hold me back from doing great things. But I don’t have much desire to do great things. What are great things without the small things?
It was classy enough to rise above the dive bar ranks, but not so swanky that you couldn’t waltz in there with sweatpants and flip-flops.
It’s really a reflection on what it means to be part of anything, both by birth and by choice, something universal, but told with a strong Dutch-American “accent.”
The concert was that night (THAT NIGHT!), so I ran upstairs to change. I hoped to find something trendy, something that would let everyone at the concert know that this nine-year-old could ball.
This is also the first time I ever took ibuprofen.
